Nuffield Report published on proposed clinical model for new Velindre Cancer Centre
STATEMENT FROM JULIE MORGAN
Member of the Senedd for Cardiff North
I welcome the review by the Nuffield Trust which has looked at the proposed clinical model of care for a new Velindre Cancer Centre. The report which has been produced has been approved by an eminent panel of experts and makes the following points:
- The present situation at Velindre is not sustainable and the current cancer hospital is not suitable to continue as a cancer centre.
- It is not viable to site a new cancer centre at the Heath Hospital – and any redevelopment of UHW is at least a decade away.
- This is a regional plan and there must be much more integration between Velindre and Local Health Boards.
A solution is needed now for the benefit of cancer patients so I await the Health Minister’s decision after he’s taken into account this review and the business plan and any other points raised.
If constituents would like to read the detail of the report it is available on the Nuffield Trust website and I welcome their views on this.
