Hollybush Estate: emergency access road plans set to change
Alternative Velindre emergency access road move welcomed by MS and MP
Julie Morgan, Member of the Senedd for Cardiff North, and Anna McMorrin, MP for Cardiff North, have greeted news that Velindre UHB is actively pursuing an alternative emergency access route for the new Velindre Cancer Centre as a “positive step forward”.
Both MS and MP have previously called on Velindre to re-think its plans for the emergency access road route which is currently set to cut through the middle of the Hollybush Estate.
Julie Morgan MS said: “We organised a meeting with Velindre and residents and it was clear to everyone that the plans for the road to cut right through the Hollybush estate would have caused enormous distress and disruption, particularly to the older people living on the estate who would have been closest to this road."
She added: “We strongly put forward residents’ concerns to Velindre and asked them to look at an alternative route. We are pleased to have received written confirmation that it is now actively investigating an alternative route. This is a positive step forward and we look forward to hearing back from Velindre when it has a new planning application in place to re-route the road."
Anna McMorrin MP said: “We’ve been raising concerns about the impact of the access route running through the heart of the Hollybush Estate for some time. I’m pleased residents were able to voice their concerns directly to Velindre, who has now heeded our calls to scrap the route. We continue to meet with Velindre regularly where we will press for more information on alternative proposals and to ensure that they will not have a detrimental impact on local residents.”
